Through a bespoke R4.135 billion financing solution, Nedbank CIB Property Finance enabled Discovery to acquire its iconic Sandton head office – a landmark transaction, and one of the largest single-asset office acquisitions in the South African market.
This transaction is underpinned by Nedbank's deep, long-standing property expertise, having originally funded the development of the head office in 2014. This provided the team with unique asset-level insight and conviction, strongly positioning Nedbank to support Discovery in executing the acquisition and unlocking continued long-term value.
This strategic shift transforms a long-term lease obligation into a resilient balance sheet asset, delivering greater financial clarity and long-term value.

For Discovery, acquiring its head office reflects a bold capital allocation decision grounded in long-range thinking. Rising lease costs, combined with favourable market conditions and access to competitive commercial property financing, created the ideal moment to shift from tenant to owner.
