This year’s theme, A Year of Transformation, is a reflection of South Africa's significant strides in reshaping its electricity sector and promoting renewable energy across the continent.
South Africa’s G20 presidency puts electricity at the centre of the energy conversation
2025 marks a turning point for South Africa’s energy landscape with electricity emerging as a central theme under the G20 presidency. The country has taken bold steps toward building a competitive electricity market by removing the generation licensing cap and unbundling Eskom’s transmission division. These reforms have made way for private electricity generation and prompted better involvement from independent power producers.
Res4Africa Conference will explore key renewable energy types and market reforms
The Res4Africa Conference will unpack these developments through 3 focused sessions:
- South Africa’s energy transformation (Key G20 messages).
- South Africa’s electricity market.
- Developing transmission and the path ahead.
These sessions will explore the rise of private electricity generation, the role of independent power producers, and the future of transmission infrastructure. An industry position paper shaped by insights from the March 2025 Cape Town forum will also be presented at the conference.
