Connecting issuers and borrowers with global liquidity

The Global Banking & Markets Africa Conference, taking place on 25 and 26 March 2025 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, is shaping up to be a pivotal event for Africa’s capital markets. This flagship conference facilitates important discussions among governments, corporates, investors, banks, and financial experts from over 40 countries. With more than 1 300 attendees and 95+ expert speakers, the event provides a platform for high-level networking, strategic partnerships, and insightful market discussions.

Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking (NCIB) will be prominently represented at the conference, with our team of specialists engaging in critical conversations shaping Africa’s financial landscape. The industry expertise of the NCIB Team will be on display across several key panel discussions, applying their deep understanding of the industry and strategic vision to the future of African markets.

Balancing structure, liquidity, and pricing: Underwriting and syndicating loans in 2025

Which sectors are likely to have the greatest borrowing demand? The Co-head of Syndication and Distribution at Nedbank, Josh Klipin, will share insights into the evolving landscape of syndicated loans with fellow panellists. The panel will address key concerns like borrowing demand across sectors, risk-return balancing in loan structuring, and the impact of shifting interest rates on loan pricing. They will also explore borrower priorities and lender strategies for maintaining liquidity, while identifying the distinctions between sovereign and corporate lending.

Government debt management amid market volatility

One of the big challenges for government debt management is identifying the steps that should be taken to promote a higher level of international foreign investment. Noxolo Pule, Principal of Debt Capital Markets at Nedbank, will contribute her expertise on sovereign funding strategies during a panel discussion, particularly on how African governments are navigating market volatility through Eurobonds, currency risk management, and hedging techniques. They will also delve into an analysis of sovereign funding sources, capital deployment, and methods to attract greater foreign investment into African debt markets.

Moving the needle on social impact funding

Sustainability remains a critical theme in Africa’s economic development. Mbali Kubheka, Associate Principal of Sustainable Finance at Nedbank, will participate in a panel discussion to examine how project finance is evolving to support social impact initiatives. They will unpack and identify funding restrictions and sectoral priorities and discuss innovative approaches to bridging the capital gap for underserved communities. The discussion also aims to highlight methodologies to measure social investment outcomes effectively.

The future of private credit in Africa

What are the risks and opportunities of private credit in Africa? On 26 March, Greig Carstens, Principal of Leveraged and Diversified Finance at Nedbank, will explore the rapidly expanding role of private credit as an alternative funding source in Africa. Alongside fellow panellists, he will explore emerging trends, strategic adaptations required by banks, and the risks and opportunities posed by the rise of private credit. The panel will also highlight potential areas for collaboration between banks and private credit providers to foster a more integrated financial ecosystem.
