Recognising excellence in African real estate

Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) Property Finance Africa has proudly won ‘Best Transaction of the Year’ at the 2024 Africa Property Investment Awards (API).

Nedbank Property Finance is the market leader in Africa in commercial property finance, with a significant share of the South African lending market and a strong track record for delivering funding solutions in Africa.

Nedbank CIB, in collaboration with global investor Actis, successfully navigated the transition of One Airport Square (OAS) in Ghana to the Sentinel Commercial Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) – a major catalyst for the growth of Ghana’s REIT market. We seamlessly structured funding for the Actis-owned OAS property under Sentinel's new ownership. In addition, short-term bridge facilities were extended to both clients, significantly enhancing transaction efficiency. Our in-depth market and property insights played a pivotal role in facilitating discussions between all parties, helping to unlock the acquisition’s maximum potential. We are committed to backing innovative investment vehicles in West Africa, actively shaping and transforming local sector landscapes.

Innovation is how we further entrench our market leadership through bespoke offerings and product differentiators that serve as key competitive value propositions.

‘This landmark deal marks a milestone for both Nedbank and the Ghanaian real estate market. The significant milestones achieved with Sentinel are testament to Nedbank’s commitment to meet client needs and the ability to implement transactions under unique circumstances. Our deep sector expertise paved the way for a more diversified real estate market in Ghana.’

Gerhard Zeelie, Divisional Executive: Property Finance Africa.

The API Awards was created to acknowledge and promote excellence in Africa’s property market and has become a critical benchmark for measuring success in the industry.

This is testament to Nedbank CIB’s extensive expertise in the sector and showcases how our knowledge and strong client relationships have cemented our leadership position in South Africa and across the continent.
